3 Words
I’m a word nerd; words mean a lot to me. When I first heard Chris Brogan talk about choosing #3words for the year as his daily guide, like “lighthouses,” I thought to myself, I can’t possible narrow it down to just 3 words. As much as I admire Brogan – business advisor and author – I filed this idea under Curious, For Later.
Now is later, and I have my 3 words. Following Brogan’s lead, my 3 words idea is simple. I chose 3 words for 2020 to help guide my choices and actions day to day. They are simple and active words, not phrases or fancy quotations. They’re mine and mine alone. I selected them thoughtfully, editing and revising a longer list I started months ago. I will not change them through the year. To cement that idea, I had my 3 words lettered onto display-ready wood pieces (thanks DotPlaid) that live in my office.
My 3 Words
Create
Making things – photographs, simple wood projects, writing, creating a meal – inspires me to make more and better things. It’s a rejuvenating and educational process. This word is an easy choice on my list of 3; it needs to be here.
Ask
I’m seldom afraid to ask the “dumb question” when doing my work as a writer. I do, however, often hesitate to ask for help, or for an introduction, or for a personal favor. The more often I do ask, the better I am. I’m going to ask.
And
I mean “and” in lieu of “but.” I’m talking about “and” that is additive to conversations and relationships; it’s positive and uplifting and forward-leaning. “And” means I will look for ways to contribute, no buts about it.
Because I work for myself and often by myself, I created this blog post to share. And I’m asking for your input. I’m asking for your 3 Words. Join me?
